Drawing 1

This is an introductory course with emphasis on the student's development of technical skills, as well as a beginning of understanding the individual artistic vision. The purpose of this class is to improve the student’s observational drawing skills by exposure to and analysis of the work of others, focused drawing time, and constructive critique sessions. While the emphasis will be on perceptual drawing skill building, each student is encouraged to find creative solutions and other approaches are introduced.  Slide lectures, discussions, critiques, reading materials, and demonstrations are integral. Tthrough in-class and out-of-class assignments, students will gain confidence in their choices and expression.

Students will complete a portfolio of drawings that cover the basic elements of perceptual drawing with an introduction to conceptual and abstract principles as well.

Students will learn basic terminology and skills to make and critique work in drawing.

Through regular slide lectures, students will broaden their exposure to artwork across generations, geographical locations, and styles.
