Painting 1

Painting 1 is an introductory course with a major emphasis on the student's development of basic painting skills and but also introduces the development of conceptual skills.  This course examines color, space, light, form, content and technique, as well as ideas, concepts, academic study and research in artmaking. The emphasis of this course will be on observational painting, but there will also be opportunity for interpretation and abstraction.  A variety of painting experiences will be presented.  With different subjects presented, topics include monochromatic painting, analogous colors, complementary colors, “earth” colors, local color, invented color, self-portrait, interior space, and Final Projects.  Slide lectures, discussions, critiques, museum visits, reading materials, and demonstrations are integral aspects of the class.
